In commemoration of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2026, observed globally on 16th June 2026, the CPF Foundation, in partnership with Chair the Love Foundation and Good Friends of Maasai Foundation, successfully conducted a wheelchair distribution exercise for vulnerable elderly persons in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, and Chepkorio, Uasin Gishu County.
The initiative was designed to honor and support older persons while raising awareness about the rights, dignity, and well-being of the elderly. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day serves as an important reminder of society's collective responsibility to protect older persons from abuse, neglect, discrimination, and social exclusion, while promoting environments where they can age with dignity and respect.
As part of the commemoration, the three organizations joined efforts to address one of the key challenges affecting many elderly individuals—limited mobility. By providing wheelchairs to older persons facing mobility challenges, the initiative sought to enhance their independence, improve access to essential services, and enable greater participation in family and community life.
More than 20 elderly beneficiaries received wheelchairs during the outreach program, bringing renewed hope and significantly improving their quality of life. For many recipients, the wheelchairs represented more than a means of transportation; they symbolized restored dignity, freedom, and the ability to live more independently.
Mobility challenges can often lead to isolation, dependence, and reduced access to healthcare and social support systems. Through this intervention, beneficiaries were empowered to move more freely, engage with their communities, and carry out daily activities with greater ease and confidence.
The exercise also provided an opportunity to engage with older persons and their caregivers, highlighting the importance of protecting and supporting elderly members of society. It reinforced the message that ageing should be accompanied by care, inclusion, and respect, rather than vulnerability and neglect.
Representatives from the CPF Foundation, Chair the Love Foundation, and Good Friends of Maasai Foundation reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing the welfare of older persons through impactful partnerships and community-based interventions. The organizations emphasized that safeguarding the dignity and well-being of the elderly requires collective action from individuals, communities, institutions, and policymakers.
The CPF Foundation remains dedicated to promoting healthy and dignified ageing through initiatives that address the social, economic, and health needs of older persons. Through strategic collaborations, the Foundation continues to champion programs that foster inclusion, improve livelihoods, and create lasting positive impact within communities.
As the world marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026, this initiative served as a powerful demonstration of compassion in action—reminding us that every older person deserves respect, care, protection, and the opportunity to live a fulfilling life with dignity.
Together, we can create communities where older persons are valued, supported, and empowered to age with grace and dignity.
